Tragic loss of life in the Channel

Tragic loss of life in the Channel

Today we mourn the deaths of 27 men, women and children who lost their lives just miles off the British coast. Each and every person bears the image of God, and must be treated and remembered as such.

We recognise that while it may be easier to label people in groups, or by their migration (or refugee) status, that each and every life lost during a dangerous crossing is tragic in its own right.

The challenges politicians across the world face in tackling the root causes of this crisis are enormous, but we forget the human faces behind this perilous journey at the sake of our humanity.

We at Jubilee+ call on leaders and decision-makers to work together on a compassionate and humane response to yesterday’s loss of life in the Channel, and to the broader crisis as a whole.

If, over the coming months you would like to become better informed about the experiences of migrants, and be equipped to support and pray more effectively please visit: Jubilee+ Refugee Network.
