Tony's story

Tony's story

Tony Attwood grew up in a dysfunctional family, full of domestic abuse and paralysing fear.

As he grew he fought to overcome his childhood experience, particularly after the revelation following the death of his father that there was no biological connection with the man he had called 'Dad'.

To cope as an adult he soon began to excessively drink and take drugs, addictions fuelled by a life of crime.

By 21 Tony was in prison; a cycle that would be repeated with over 15 prison sentences to follow.

After multiple attempts to engage with rehabilitation Tony spotted a leaflet for a Christian treatment centre. He visited and soon started attending church, where he had a powerful encounter with God, leading him to pray, study the Bible and serve those around him.

As his video story below shares, Tony has now been living sober and drug-free for three and a half years. His son is back in his life, and he has set up a charity alongside the very judge who sentenced him!

You can hear Tony's story in his own words below, and find out more about Hope and Vision, and its efforts to provide safe, secure and supported accommodation for former offenders in Berkshire by clicking here.
