Praxis Labs 2: Keep going for the long haul

Praxis Labs 2: Keep going for the long haul

Are you someone who has been working to bring hope and transformation in your community? Or maybe you’ve been active in campaigning on local, national or global issues. If you’re looking for inspiration, encouragement and time to take stock at the start of a new year, you may be interested to check out the Praxis Labs 2 course.

Run by the Praxis Centre for Hope and Activism, the course covers topics such as ‘Love and (don’t) burnout’, ‘Reimagining success and handling failure’, and ‘If you want to go far, go together’, as well as campaign and community activism strategy and tactics.

Beth Saunders went on a Praxis Labs course back in 2019, before she took on a role with the Praxis Centre;

“In the course I did, there was a session where we thought about ‘What is God giving you hope for?’ and I felt God placed the church and environmental action on my heart... I went on to set up a justice group in my church where we did a number of things in the church and local community over a couple of years, including studying justice issues theologically and organising some church services about fuel poverty, food waste and plastic pollution. Then in the wider community we organised a film screening to show the damage of fast fashion and organised litter picks and beeswax wraps sessions to give people a way to respond to climate injustice. The Praxis Labs was so helpful in getting this off the ground: the 1-2-1 coaching included in the Labs helped me work out what the next steps were in helping this vision be realised; we thought about how to build a team of people around you who can help you achieve this vision; how to plan an effective campaign that brings change; and reflected on holding onto hope when things get hard.”

The Labs 2 course is designed for you if…

• You’re passionate about making a difference, and want to discover how to make your campaigning or community work more effective. You’re looking for advice and tips from others who’ve been successful.

• You’re taking action but it isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s hard to hold on to hope. Sometimes – if you’re really honest – it’s hard to balance everything you’re doing with your own health. You’re looking for a better way of managing things so that your pace of life is more sustainable.

Featuring contributions from Jo Musker-Sherwood, Jan de Villiers, Jack Wakefield, Aaron Shah and more, the course runs for six weeks starting on 27th January 2022. Check out the Praxis website for more information about the course and to register your interest...
