Violence Against Women: Discovering El Roi, The God Who Sees
When former human rights solicitor Claudine Roberts searched for a book that gathered stories of gender-based violence in Scripture, she couldn't find one.
In response she has written ‘Violence Against Women: Discovering El Roi, The God Who Sees’, part of the Cover to Cover Bible Study series for Waverley Abbey, a seven-session study (suited for groupwork or individual use) which gathers stories of women in the Old Testament and New, alongside discussion questions.
In the interview above, Claudine explains how she saw her own experience of gender-based violence mirrored in many of the characters she explored, and how Jesus sets a new standard for the treatment of women by placing himself in harms way.
The World Health Organisation estimates that one-third of women across the globe will experience gender-based violence during their lifetime, but for women living in poverty the likelihood is far greater*.
Over the coming weeks Claudine will be writing for Jubilee+ about the interaction between UK poverty and violence specifically targeted towards women.
In the meantime get to know her a little better in this short interview (and find 'Violence Against Women: Discovering El Roi, The God Who Sees' by clicking here).
