'I'M NOT A BUM; I'M A HUMAN BEING'

Last week we mentioned we have a book coming out in October called The Myth of the Undeserving Poor. One of the points we make in the book is this:

Our attitudes towards people in poverty (and people in general) can so often be based on the things they say and do, but our starting place should always be that every single person is created in the image of God, known by him and loved by him. This immediately gives each individual dignity and worth. This needs to be the first and uppermost thought in our minds and hearts when we encounter people in poverty... Our attitudes must be rooted in honouring the value God places on every person.

This YouTube video presents us with a challenge not to judge someone by their circumstances or situation, but to see them first and foremost as a fellow human being:

If you want to find out more about the Jubilee+ book and our work helping churches engage more effectively with the poorest in our communities, come to our conference next month.
