Part-Time Temporary PR and Comms post in Swansea.

POST TITLE:   PR and communications co-ordinator,  Swansea

ADVERTISEMENT AND JOB DESCRIPTION:

The charity SASS (Swansea Asylum Seekers Support, sass.wales) is seeking a freelance PR and communications specialist to raise public awareness and recruit new volunteers for our 10-year-old Share Tawe Voluntary Hosting scheme.

This is a fixed-term position, starting as soon as possible after 11 January 2021 and ending on or before 31 March 2021. There is a fixed budget of £5000 (inclusive of all expenses).

The Share Tawe scheme (see https://swansea.cityofsanctuary.org/share-tawe) helps homeless and destitute asylum seekers in Swansea by recruiting volunteer hosts – kind people with spare rooms – to give them shelter. We help the guests restart their asylum case and progress towards settled status.

Share Tawe urgently needs to recruit more volunteer hosts. We are also looking to work with philanthropic landlords and housing associations to provide additional accommodation.

Your task is to promote local awareness of Share Tawe and so recruit new volunteer hosts. Other kinds of new voluntary supporters will also be welcome: donors, philanthropic landlords, and potentially also administrative support.

SASS is a flourishing small local charity. We have extensive networks across organisations in the asylum/refugee sector, and a strong private donor base, but we lack capacity to capitalise on these contacts. Our social media presence is limited and needs refreshing. There is strong potential to reach new recruits both by animating existing supporters and by tapping into related networks, such as humanitarian/social justice and faith-based communities.

Experience of third-sector work, especially in the asylum/refugee sector, would be a great advantage. Good local knowledge will be helpful. Good writing and design skills are needed, and photographic and audio-visual production experience would be an advantage. We require dynamic, engaging multimedia content which will be usable in multiple contexts, with sustainable value. As well as producing content, you will train volunteers in how to use it, in social media, other communications, and recruitment events.

Please apply by 4 January 2021 by email to t.cheesman@swansea.ac.uk with the following: 1) your CV; 2) contacts for 2 referees; 3) your day rate and the number of days you can commit; 4) a brief (one page) statement of how you would approach the work.  Likely Interview dates 7th or 8th January.
