For several years the Evangelical Alliance had been engaging with the Home Office to try to get asylum caseworkers and judges to assess asylum cases based on Christian conversion or belief accurately. It culminated in a symposium in London and this report, fronted by the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, himself a refugee from Uganda.

The report highlights the lack of understanding of what a Christian is and the range of absurd questions asked to verify someone's belief, problems with interpreters and a range of other common issues.

Sadly, little has changed since  2007, and the many of those same errors of assessment are still being made ten years later.
