Issues: Refugees & Asylum Seekers
Jubilee+ has formed a Refugee Network to help churches and Christians with their work in this area. The Jubilee+ Refugee Network, which is full of resources and information, can be found here.
While the Syrian refugee crisis has attracted the media spotlight over much of 2015 and 2016, immigration has dominated the monthly Economist/Ipsos-Mori ‘Issues Index’ for even longer. It is a hot political topic that divides the public and politicians – and even Christians. Unsurprisingly, it was a key issue in the June 2016 EU referendum, and Jubilee+ has seen a marked increase in churches across the UK looking to directly help and support refugees and asylum seekers, as well as contacting us to find out what they can do and what other Christians are doing. At least 3,770 migrants died trying to cross the Mediterranean in 2015. In the summer of 2016 we brought together many experts on this issue and project leaders from across the country. We are currently developing this network as we believe there will be an increasing need for churches to help refugees and asylum seekers in their communities.
