Jubilee+ calls on Jeremy Hunt to...

The Bank of England recently predicted that the UK’s economy is entering into the longest recession since records began.

As we head into what could be one of the most economically tough winters many of us have known, we at Jubilee+ recognise the huge challenges that face our government and the Chancellor of the Exchequer when they are preparing the budget statement for 17th November.

The budget will impact all of us: already many people in our society are having to make financial decisions on how to manage their household budget in a way that they previously have not needed to.

But as always, it is those already living in poverty, those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged, of all ages, who will be hit the hardest.

With this in mind, Jubilee+ calls on Jeremy Hunt to, at least, take the following measures to protect those most in need:

• Raise the level of benefit payments in line with inflation
• Commit to keep the triple-lock on pensions
• Provide means-tested support for energy costs after April 2023

As a Christian charity that aims to equip and empower local churches in caring for those living in poverty, we would encourage all Christians and churches in the UK to:

Email your local MP to ask them to support the measures above
• Support your local social action work in any way you can (finance, donations, volunteering)
• Pray for our national government and your local government leaders
