Jubilee+ welcomes, in part, some of the measures announced by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt today.
Along with other charities across the country, we have been campaigning for action to be taken to reduce the impact of the cost of living crisis this winter on those living in poverty.
We are pleased that the chancellor has committed to raising benefits in line with inflation, keeping the triple-lock on pensions and continued to provide support for energy costs beyond April 2023.
However, we remain concerned about how those in poverty will get through this winter, and that there will still be many people on low incomes who will be facing unmanageable bills and risk being plunged into poverty.
We call on the chancellor and the government to actively listen to charities and agencies that are working with those who are vulnerable and experiencing poverty to ensure that policy decisions remain flexible and responsive to their needs as the cost of living crisis continues.
